Xiaolou was once the princess of the South. Kind and innocent, a playful troublemaker. Until the West attacked, in search of the book of “Three Cardinal Directions”, leaving her hometown in ruin and shambles.

As the daughter of the city lord, she was the princess. Xiaolou was spoiled by all the residents of the South, which made her grow over reliant, incapable of ever being left to do things when left alone. Whenever Xiaolou would get hurt, her mother would give her candied haws to comfort her. Xiaolou’s life was full of tanghulu. To her, the sweet and sour flavor was the taste of happiness.

Xiaolou sticks her tongue out, then evacuates. Doing her best to ignore the blood-curdling screams all around her, trying to focus on way to escape. The royal guards sacrificed themselves in a desperate attempt to protect the princess, however it has been long since they last battled. Seven guards were killed, while eighty-eight were severely injured.

Only one guard was left, it was her babysitter whom she regarded as her uncle, he was severely wounded. In the forest, they resided in a quiant cottage for solace. Xiaolou couldn't bear the sight of her uncle writhing in pain… Recalling how her mother would give her candied haws whenever she was injured, and so she ran away to buy her uncle Tanghulu.

The consequence of such carelessness, Xiaolou's whereabouts were discovered, her location has been exposed. When she came back, she saw a sight worse than her uncle's suffering, he was unresponsive, lying still on the wooden floor. Xiaolou fell on her knees, her heart heavy with grief. She held the hand of her uncle, he was cold with no vitals. She sniffled and winced, as tears rolled down her cheeks. ”This… This is all my fault… I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry…“

The West sent two of their best assassins after her, she couldn't hear what they're saying. As the sword began to swing, Xiaolou accepted her fate… Instead, the assassin fought his partner. The remaining assassin dropped his weapon, and collapsed from fatigue.

However instead of running away, the princess approached the boy who was meant to kill her. Xiaolou knew she wouldn't stand a chance alone, outside the city walls with no one to protect her. She would get in trouble again, with no one else to save her.

”Hey, wake up sleepyhead! Are you okay? Here, tanghulu always make me feel better!“ If Xiaolou was going to die… She at least dies as a good person. The assassin was confused, however he accepted the princess's kindness, his name was Jinyi.

Her name was originally supposed to be ”Hua Xiaorou (花小柔)“. It is rumored that you can still find an official account with this name on social media. Though many (including officials such mini-captains, admins, etc.) reported that the name was a typo, however it was proven incorrect, for it was done on purpose.

The names of the partnered skins, ”Xiaolou and Jinyi“ was a reference to ”Duan Xiaolou and Cheng Dieyi“, the two main protagonists of the movie Farewell My Concubine (霸王别姬).
